Reducing the Deficit
Although there is a broad bipartisan consensus that the long-term fiscal policies of the United States are unsustainable. At $23 trillion and rising, the national debt threatens America’s economic future.
The return of trillion-dollar deficits. The budget deficit was $984 billion in 2019, according to the Department of the Treasury. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that deficits will rise to $1.4 trillion by 2029, resulting in a cumulative deficit of $12.2 trillion over the 10-year period from 2020 to 2029.
Addressing our national debt is an essential part of securing America’s economic future. These key fiscal and economic issues will be at my forefront of the policy conversation when elected, and our leaders should seize the opportunity to pursue sensible reforms that will put our long-term fiscal trajectory on a sustainable path.
